Sharon Reed Haugh, 73, of Yardley, PA, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was married to her beloved husband, Jack, for 52 wonderful years, sharing a love story that read like a work of fiction.
As a dedicated history teacher, Sharon had a profound passion for American history, dedicating over 30 years to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, spending a majority of those years teaching at St. Martin of Tours in Philadelphia. She was known for her declaration and dedication to the unpopular opinion that Betsy Ross was a fraud, a testament to her engaging teaching style and her relentless sense of humor.
Music was another of Sharon’s great loves, especially church songs that brought joy to her heart. The music she cherished filled her home with warmth and harmony. Sharon and her husband taught their children the workings of the world through their favorite songs and albums, except when those harmonies were R.E.M.’s Automatic for the People, at which her four children dedicated time to making that album miraculously disappear.
Together, she and Jack raised their four children, Bubba, Julia, Meghann and Merry, instilling in them the values of strength and independence. Her children grew up under her watchful eye, becoming the capable individuals she always knew they could be. Her ten grandchildren were the absolute light of her life, each one holding a special place in her heart.
Above all, Sharon adored her husband, Jack. His nickname for her was “Onion,” a term of endearment that captured the layers of love and companionship they shared. She affectionately called him “Nick,” and their bond was evident to all who knew them. They worked tirelessly to build a life filled with love, joy, and uncountable memories. All they needed was each other, an evening cup of coffee and their tireless conversations. When the two of them were together, all was right with the world.
Sharon’s legacy of love, strength, and passion for life will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she loved so dearly.
Sharon is survived by her husband Jack, her children John (Anne), Julia Donohue (Mike), Meghann Hartnett (Mike) and Meredith Merrill (Brian) and her ten grandchildren, Michael, Lucia, Chase, Jack, Charlotte, Beckett, Bridget, John, Brian and Erin.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:30am at St. John the Evangelist Church 752 Big Oak Road Morrisville, PA 19067. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067.
