Joseph was born on August 14, 1931, to Anne McGovern and Milton Whinney. He graduated from LaSalle College High School in 1949 and served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He graduated from Temple University with a degree in metallurgy and started work in steel sales at Philadelphia Steel and Wire. His career was spent in the steel sales industry for over 40 years.
Joseph married June Therese Wagner on November 4, 1967 who preceded him in death in 2020. He was also preceded in death by his eldest son Joseph Thomas in 2017.
He is survived by his son Christopher Milton Whinney, granddaughter Pomee Therese, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
A viewing will be held on Sunday June 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at James J Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Rd. Levittown, PA.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 752 Big Oak Road, Morrisville, PA on Monday July 1, at 10:30 AM, with a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM.
