SACRAMENTS
Reconciliation
Each Saturday in the Church, 4:00 – 5:00 PM; other times by
appointment
Baptism
Baptisms are celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month
(unless noted otherwise in the bulletin) in the Church at 1:00 PM
and during Sunday Mass upon request.
¨ Pre-Jordan Classes: Parents are required to attend a
Pre-Jordan Class. They are held to instruct parents in the
importance of Baptism as a sacramental sign of the Christian Church
and to highlight their role in the faith development of their child.
Although parents only need attend the Pre-Jordan Class for their
first child, a particular situation may arise which may require
parents to attend further classes (e.g. – non-participation at
Sunday Mass each Sunday).
¨ Godparent Information: An information sheet will be
provided to parents when they register a child for Baptism which
will note the significance and responsibilities of Godparents
(Sponsors) and clearly state the qualifications required to stand as
a Godparent at Baptism.
First Reconciliation & First Communion
These Sacraments are received in the 3rd grade after successful
completion of the required education at St. John’s Parish School or
in our CCD education classes by the children and fulfillment of all
required aspects of St. John’s Sacramental Program on the part of
the child’s parent(s).
Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is received in the 6th grade after
successful completion of the required education at St. John’s Parish
School or in our CCD education classes by the children and
fulfillment of all required aspects of St. John’s Sacramental
Program on the part of the child’s parent(s).
Marriage
Catholic Marriage is a commitment to a life-long covenant
relationship between a man and a woman before God. Pre-marital (Pre-Cana)
classes are required. Couples should contact the parish priest at
least six months prior to the anticipated date of marriage.
Holy Orders
A Catholic man who has made all of his Sacraments of Initiation
(Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist) and who believes he might
have a call to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ or a single or married
man a call to the Permanent Diaconate should contact the Pastor for
further discussion and direction.
Anointing of the Sick
This sacrament is administered to those who are seriously ill,
facing serious surgery, or thought to be near death. Parishioners
should not wait until the last moment of life to call the rectory to
arrange to receive this sacrament. It is further recommended that
parishioners who are scheduled for surgery should call the rectory
to arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
prior to their admittance to the hospital. Also, if a parishioner
can no longer get out of their homes to attend Sunday Mass due to
serious infirmity or old age, they should contact the rectory to be
placed on our Communion Call list for a monthly visit by the priest
or deacon and weekly visits by one of our Extraordinary Ministers of
Holy Communion to receive the Holy Eucharist every Sunday, is so
desired.
